Volunteer for the Council

Volunteer with the Virginia Headwaters Council

The Virginia Headwaters Council thrives on the dedication and passion of its volunteers, who serve as the backbone of our mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes. Whether you’re a lifelong Scouting enthusiast or a community member looking to make a difference, there’s a place for you to lend your time and talents. Volunteering with the Council is more than just an opportunity to support local youth—it’s a chance to grow, lead, and give back in a meaningful way.

Why Volunteer?

As a volunteer, you play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our youth. From teaching essential life skills and fostering leadership to instilling core values of duty, honor, and service, you’ll be making a direct impact on the next generation of leaders. Scouting also offers adults opportunities for personal growth through training, camaraderie, and the chance to develop new skills.

Ways to Volunteer

No matter your interests or availability, we have a variety of ways for you to get involved. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Unit Leadership: Become a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Den Leader, or assistant leader, working directly with youth in local packs, troops, or crews.
  • Council and District Committees: Provide strategic support by assisting with fundraising, membership growth, program planning, training, or marketing initiatives.
  • Special Events and Activities: Help plan and execute exciting events like camporees, Pinewood Derby races, or merit badge fairs.
  • Camp Support: Serve as a volunteer at our camps, assisting with maintenance, staffing summer programs, or helping ensure camp facilities remain a top-tier experience for Scouts.
  • Merit Badge Counselors: Share your expertise by guiding Scouts through the requirements of merit badges, helping them explore potential career paths and hobbies.

What’s in It for You?

Beyond making a difference in the lives of young people, volunteering with the Virginia Headwaters Council is an incredibly rewarding experience. You’ll meet new people, build friendships, and join a network of individuals united by a common purpose. Whether you volunteer for a day, a season, or a lifetime, you’ll gain the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping to create lasting memories and life-changing experiences for youth in our community.
